1  Other / Trouble in Terrorist Town / Re: [Idea] Whispering or some kind of proximity based voice chat. on: June 04, 2010, 11:28:07 PM
I am pretty sure that is exactly what RnL does. I was amazed when it sounded like voices were coming from the people in the room's direction.

I suggested an area-of-effect type voice chat before and it got mostly denied but I still think it is a great idea.

Right now, I rarely play on server when there are more than 12 players, a lot of people have mics and people are always speaking over eachother and therefore missing when someone is saying "___ Is the traitor hel-"

I feel this would bring us back to how TTT used to be, you would actually want to try and trust some people (hang out in a group) so you can hear them/they can hear you nearby and so you don't get caught alone by a traitor. Right now people pretty much go off on their own and hope they win as an innocent.

In the end, I play TTT to play TTT.

If I wanted to listen to people talk about their life or trying to be funny I would play a more casual game, like ZM.

But yeah, it isn't a feature I care too deeply about at the moment and I see how you would want to implement it.

This is why the gamemode was 7 times as fun when it started, and the one server was full with ZM forumites/SK players.

Man I miss those days.
4  Other / Trouble in Terrorist Town / Text/Mic Radius of effect Suggestion on: January 25, 2010, 12:43:09 AM
I think this was suggested before but I believe it deserves another topic.

My suggestion is that both text/mic are restricted to a small-medium sized radius around the player. Pretty much the same as seen in some DarkRp (ugh) servers.

I suppose the impact on gameplay is that if people are isolated away from the rest of the innocents, they can be killed without anyone knowing via lastwords or mic cutting off but that isn't the real reason I am suggesting this.

The main reason is that on a full/near full TTT server you usually get a lot of mic users and a lot of people that spam up the text with "I am with" etc. On many occasion, people shouting out the killer before they die is ignored or not heard (because of others talking over them) and the "I am with" stuff is usually ignored all together, as nearly everyone tends to use it non stop.

Restricting the distance someone can be heard will probably be a balanced feature. Sure, people can be killed without anyone knowing at all but that happens plenty enough already.

With this implemented, if you see someones last words you will KNOW that the killer is nearby because you can hear them, and unless you are with a crowd, it wont be spammed away. Same goes for mic users if they get cut off suddenly. You will KNOW that the killer is nearby from gunshots and the text/mic because you can actually HEAR it nearby.

Without this, someone could have their last words and unless it contains the name of the killer, which it often doesn't, it wont be of much use. With this, hearing last words without a killer's name will be useful enough for the benefit of locating the traitor. If the last words do contain the killer's name, then it wont always mean certain death for the traitor.

But yeah, overall, this game mode on Gmod is probably the one place I have heard the most people with mics on a server and it gives me a headache. This game mode requires a lot of communication via text or mic so it is encouraged to be talking almost non stop and muting people who talk a little TOO much could lower your chances of survival/winning.

I feel this feature could add more tactics and reasons for staying together/roaming by yourself. Someone could group with someone they find interesting to listen to or claim that reason as the traitor to get close to them. Or people could go solo if they don't want to have to listen to people yapping on about their life problems which could be a cover story for a traitor etc.

I missed some things which I may be able to post another time. Quite the wall of text I wrote D=

Please let me know what you think and I wont hold it against ya if you don't read it in its entirety but please scan it if you think you have found a flaw that I might have ironed out in my explanation above.

Sit out vote wouldn't work.

Would become like DarkRp or one of those shoddy spin offs with their vote demote function.
People would just vote to sit out people who killed them.

RDM is the reason I prefered playing Serial killer on ZM on a private server with a bunch of people I know.
I definitely don't think it should be solely Self Defense or if you see someone kill another person, the whole detective mode would become useless. I tend to talk for quite some time about my reasoning why I suspect someone before I plan to kill them, as an innocent.

Traitors can be RDMed. That person is randomly killing, that person could have easily been an innocent. The fact it was a traitor was chance and the traitor isn't a DMer, they aren't gonna take everyone on, they wanna be subtle to win.

Perma banned JohnFreeman the other day. Got several reports of him RDMing and being abusive over the mic. I doubt Joker will come back now his friend can't.

Also Perma banned several days ago for the same reasons.

Already told you, Alters, about these cases.

Hopefully we can continue to keep the server free of griefers.

There definately needs to be an innocent buff of some sort. I only play to be a traitor and when I am not I am so close to just quitting.

Pestoolio, they couldn't prove their innocence with it.
1.A traitor may pretend to have an ability.
2.An innocent may pretend to have an ability so others wont try to kill them.
3.They can still get killed.
4.What good is it knowing one person is definately innocent when that person can't be sure of anyone else.

Like Marauder said, if not an ability or buff, something that makes it funner like an objective to achieve.
It is always fun to attempt to call the train on countrytrain or do the objectives on downtown and often leads to some fun situations.

The new detective mode is great and all but have you got any innocent buffs in mind?

When I am chosen as traitor it is awesome but being innocent is just annoying and makes me want to go play something else.

Innocent equipment is obviously a no but I am thinking something like a randomly chosen innocent gets a special ability which no one else knows about.

If they reveal their ability - they will be prime targets for traitors. So they can't use it to prove their innocence.

But yeah, something that makes being innocent more fun would be nice as it seems with every update that it is getting harder and harder for the non traitors.
