I've seen several instances where someone has a menu up, or accidentally brings it up, during combat and ends up dying because of it. Dunno if this could be implemented or if it's even a good idea, but what about closing any open buy/examine/examine body menus upon taking damage?

That sounds like an excellent idea! I assume that would mean the F1 menu and the C menu, that would be about it really...

Body search menu already closes if you press any key that isn't F5. Having control like that seems vastly preferable over having it auto-close on you if someone decides to prod you with a barrel.

Why? It makes it more of a risk to examine or buy something.
