Well, ive made a custom weapon for traitors, and was wondering on how to make a vtf / vmt out of the image ive currently created.
The vtf's ive made before just bug out into flashing pink/black squares...
Can someone tell me how to?

Make sure you are using
"UnlitGeneric"
in your .vmt and not
"LightmappedGeneric"
or
"VertexLitGeneric"
. This should repair the flashing black and purple.
Make sure the pathway to your .vtf material file is correct in your .vmt file.
You may want to use the following layout for your .vmt file:
"UnlitGeneric"
{
"$basetexture" "VGUI/ttt/xxxxxxx"
"$vertexcolor" 1
"$vertexalpha" 1
"$translucent" 1
}
In terms of your .vtf the following
MUST
be considered:
1. Your Image MUST be 64 pixels x 64 pixels.
2. In adobe photoshop or VTF Edit, use the BGRA8888 Compression image format for your .vtf
3. Make sure the following flags are selected for your .vtf file:
- Point Sample
- No Mipmap
- No Level of Detail
- Eight Bit Alpha Map (Format Specified)
3. Thats it. Your .vtf file should be working nicely now in-game.
Note: I prefer importing my .tga files into VTF Edit and Compile the .vtf from there, it's a lot easier to work with the parameters and select your compression format and what not.
