Judging by the reactions from many, many players, being Innocent is boring and consists of waiting until someone shoots at you so you can kill them. Considering Innocents make up roughly 3/4 of the playercount, you will also be playing Innocent a lot. So make the most out of it, and don't hang around doing nothing!
As an Innocent, your job is to figure out who the Traitors are and to kill them before they kill you.
Some things you definitely SHOULD do:
1) Keep an eye on everyone not-Detective. They're all suspects as long as they're alive.
2) Try to remember who has what primary weapon. As people end up dying you can narrow down who killed them.
3) Identify all unIDed bodies*. Preferably, tell everyone what gun killed them, and if recent, when.
4) If the detective dies, check that body. And the area around it. The DNA scanner is left behind often enough.
5) Two people together in a room when you leave it? Stand outside the door and listen.
6) Call out C4 if you hear it. If you're not sure, say so. "c4?" is quick to type and still expresses uncertainty.
7) Time about to run out? Keep moving so the T and his radar can't catch you.
*Exception: the body itself already proves you're the last innocent alive. No need to tell the Traitors you know it's you and them. Sometimes they'll try and get you to trust them - shoot THEM in the back.
And some things you SHOULDN'T do:
1) DON'T be sneaky. Traitors are sneaky. Innocents are nosey.
2) If you get a traitor weapon, DON'T keep it out for show. Someone might think you're a T and shoot you. And then he gets shot. End result: 2 less innocents.
3) DON'T tell everyone you have the DNA scanner. It only tells Traitors they need to target you next.
4) DON'T shoot other people to 'test' them. Innocents will think you're a T and shoot you. Traitors will defend themselves and shoot you. Either way, you get shot and learn nothing.
5) DON'T pretend you're a T. Most people will shoot you for it.
6) DON'T play with props/bodies. It's pointless and renders you defenseless. Easy kill for the T.
This list is just my opinion and is not exhaustive. If anyone has additions or suggestions, feel free to comment and discuss.

This is an excellent thread idea. Oftentimes games are ruined due to bad innocents.
-AVOID checking an identified traitor body before the detective does. If possible, let the killer call the detective. Otherwise, you are committing a treacherous offense; you could be stealing the credits.
-AVOID muddying the waters of "confirmed" innocents unless you have real evidence against them. If you need to suspect them, keep it personal; otherwise it looks like you're trying to split the innocents up.
-Offer any traitor equipment you find to the detective or a confirmed innocent. If that's not an option, announce to everyone that you have it so you're not killed with it OR stick it somewhere that it is unlikely to be found (off a cliff is always nice).
-When necessary, warn others about having snipers, deagles, and shotguns out in cramped quarters. If others get too close with instakill weapons, they are most likely either clueless or trying to kill you. Teach them a lesson and shoot first.
-Narrow down the suspects. If a loner was killed when you were with others, you know someone else was the killer (but do keep in mind the number of traitors alive). Same goes for the use of traitor equipment or traitor-specific map objectives.
-Watch out for traitor slips and ambiguous language. Sometimes traitors use public voice or reveal details when they don't mean to.
-Watch where other terrorists are watching. If they're looking at others' heads or through walls (at potential radar blips), the least you should do is suspect them. If they run into you (especially at the end of a round) in a good hiding spot, it's also most likely radar.
-Don't let traitors know you're onto them unless necessary. Otherwise, you are a priority target.
-Always obey the detective and confirmed innocents unless they are particularly terrible or you know them to be wrong. Never shoot at them, either.
-Be mindful of the number of terrorists alive and originally in-game (ttt_print_playercount). Pay attention to who leaves the game before the end of the round. This information--especially when combined with suspicions, confirmed innocents, and evidence--can easily point out who the remaining traitor(s) is (are).
-KOS players that do not respond to an alive check. Excuses are generally fake.
Just a few things. I'll try to add more when I think of them.
