This is the release of my Outpost 31 map, based on the movie the Thing by John Carpenter.

This map is a Homage to the movie the Thing, based on seeing the movie over 50 times and collecting
blueprints and exclusive pictures of fan sites.

Long story short this map may not completely work in a multiplayer game non the less i have made the
map in a way i think it will work out best as possible for TTT.

It features some of the Memorable places from the movie such as, The wreck room, Mac's Shack, the Dog
kennel and the hidden alien cave to name a few.
Some places that were in the movie are off limits in this beta and some places never show in the movie
i have added to make it better playable.

There are over 30 player spawns.
Enough guns for 30 players, can't find them, search better!
Inside, outside, underground and high rise areas for sniping and knifing.
Foggy snowy wilderness to get lost in and flares to light ones way.
Traitors can activate an escape tunnel or unlock the kennel door.

Comments are welcome and please use good and non flaming examples for criticism.

Displacements could use some work, but it looks pretty dang nice overall.  (Looks better than the current "THE THING" ttt map, even though that one is pretty fun)

Might wanna try making a .bz2 or whatever it is, so that the file is a faster download.

Displacements could use some work, are you KIDDING me?
I went beyond anything ive ever seen on displacements in any map, did you actually play my map?
I made displacements into models for all the roofs so they look like organic snow and they wouldn't lagg the map.
If some of the displacements look a bit rough at the walking paths outside its because its the map is completely at its limits at the refined displacements.
Most of the displacements are as smooth as they can be, did you see the snow on the roofs the generator room and the alien cave?

Great job on the map and making use of custom assets and Propper. I have spotted 3 bugs you may want address:

1. Minor texture Mis-Alignment Present on the Arch of the door way.

Not a very big issue but if you want to preserve the quality of your texture alignments, fixing this should help.

2. Missing Material Texture for Radio/Microphone System.
Not sure if others are experiencing this, however uploading the missing texture would be greatly appreciated.

3. Black Blob shadowing.
You could probably solve this by adding a small light source under the snow covered stairway in conjunction with "block light" brushes in a stair formation to simulate better shadowing.

That's about all the bugs I was able to spot. The first and last are minor however if you could kindly either integrate the missing texture in the next revision or upload the file separately, that would be great.

Thanks for the nice comments.
As for the bugs i know them all except for the radio texture, ill see if i am missing that then if needed update it in the missing texture patch.

- Alignment door arch, there isn't a fix because of the way the arch is and the way i have to rotate it because the wall is 1 unit thick so i make it in straight position then rotate, its to small and way to much work to make it in 45 degree position.
(I see now that you mean the texture itself, yes i will fix that for the next version.)
- Snow displacement flaw isn't a flaw the snow dives under what is a wooden podium also one area is blocked and you shouldn't even be there XD
- Shadow under the stairs seems fine, nice and dark for someone to hide.
- Snow sticking through roof parts, i will leave this the way its is because i made the snow for the roofs into models and its a bitch to get right. i could make the wooden roof a bit higher but that's not possible everywhere.
-Block able doors are fun, use a nade XD

In short i knew about all this and decided not to act on it because of reasons stated above, only the missing texture will be fixed if found to be so.
Anyway thanks for the feedback.

also one area is blocked and you shouldn't even be there XD

Remove it then.

i could make the wooden roof a bit higher but that's not possible everywhere.

Or you could just lower the ceiling.

-Block able doors are fun, use a nade XD

This won't make the blocked area accessible again.
