I'm pretty picky when it comes to details in games. Considering that this is a detective game, I think it would be neat if bullet shells/casings on the ground lasted the entire round and not just 10 seconds before disappearing. That way, you can tell where shots were fired and with what kind of gun. Maybe even from a certain direction. I'm not sure if this is entirely possible without heavily modifying the code. Or if it's client-side. But it would still be neat never-the-less. What do you guys think?

It's client-side I think. If bullet shells were made to server-side entities they would lag to hell.

Indeed it is; just like blood.

Would there be any way to change the length of time they stay on the ground? Without getting VAC'd or heavily editing any code.

No, that time is hardcoded in GMod/Source. There is no convar for it.
